Talamantes was driving to a news conference honoring life-saving efforts by city workers on Wednesday when she spotted her brother’s car in front her. She called him to chat, and he said he was going to Costco in Cal Expo — a relatively long journey from Natomas. He couldn’t wait to peruse aisles filled with yummy snacks in a store just down the street from him, she said. “It’s things like that,” Talamantes said, to explain the buzz of excitement and interest around the imminent opening.
