Sacramento County leaders approve plan to convert Residence Inn into affordable housing project
Sacramento City Council Member Karina Talamantes, however, believes the city should have been more involved in deciding how to best use these funds. She spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting on the matter.
"It is unusual for a city of Sacramento councilmember to testify in public comment to the County Board of Supervisors, but I felt like i needed to," she said. "In the last two years, we've had such a large influx and increase the number of encampments in the communities that live north of the river."
She raised issue with how the grant money would be spent and criticized the county for what she believed was a lack of transparency about how they sought to spend the grant funding and lack of collaboration with city leaders.
"I had hoped that the $25 million that Assemblymember Kevin McCarty allocated to this would be able to provide us with some relief. We were not part of the conversation," she said.
