Karina Talamantes Endorsed by Sacramento Central Labor Council and Los Rios College Federation of Teachers

SACRAMENTO—Today, the Karina Talamantes for Sacramento County Board of Education campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of the Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279.

The Sacramento Central Labor Council advocates to improve the lives of working people. They work to ensure that all people who work are treated fairly, with decent paychecks and health and retirement benefits, safe jobs, respect, and equal opportunities.

“As a first generation college student from a working class family, I am excited to be supported by organizations that represents the interest of hard working families,” said Talamantes. “I look forward to working with the Sacramento Central Labor Council to continue advancing equity in our communities.”

The Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279 represents approximately 2,500 instructors, counselors, librarians, college nurses, and program coordinators at campuses of California’s second largest community college district, including, American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College.

“Partnerships with our community college system is key to ensuring that our schools prepare students to be college and career ready,” said Talamantes. “The Los Rios College Federation of Teachers plays a critical role in supporting fair wages and supports to staff that are critical for student success.”

In endorsing Talamantes, the Sacramento Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO and the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers, Local 2279, joins the California School Employees Association, and the Natomas Teachers Association, making Talamantes the candidate with the most school employees association support in the race for Sacramento County Board of Education, Area 2.

SACRAMENTO—Today, Karina Talamantes, candidate for the Sacramento County Board of Education Area 2, announced the endorsement of the Natomas Democratic Club and Placer County Democrats.

“I want to thank the Natomas Democratic Club and Placer County Democrats for their support and for their work representing our community,” said Talamantes. “If elected, I will continue to be accessible, and continue fighting for our Natomas and Placer County students.”

Karina is a career counselor and former special education educator. She has worked for 10 years in federal programs for low-income students.

Sacramento, CA. – Today, Dr. Richard Pan, pediatrician and state senator representing the Sacramento Region, endorsed Karina Talamantes for Sacramento County Board of Education Area 2.

Sacramento, Calif. – Sacramento City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby announced today the endorsement of Karina Talamantes for Sacramento County Board of Education Area 2.

“Karina brings years of experience in education, including as a career counselor, translator and teacher for special education students, and work with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics,” said Councilwoman Ashby. “Karina genuinely cares about the children and families she will serve. She also has the energy and enthusiasm to be a tremendous success in this position.”

Councilwoman Ashby currently serves as the District One representative on the Sacramento City Council. During her time on the Council she has also served on dozens of regional boards and commissions including the Sacramento Public Library Authority, Association of California Water Agencies, Sacramento Area Council of Governments, Regional Transit and many more.
